Chronic Illness

When it comes to the most complex, chronically ill patients, the numbers speak for themselves.
The United States spends more per capita on healthcare each year than any other country in the world. As annual expenditure exceeds $2 trillion, mounting costs have pushed the US healthcare system to the brink of insolvency. However, it is relatively few patients (about 10%) that account for the majority of that spending (nearly 70%).

$200 Billion: Each year Medicare spends over $200 billion on inpatient care.

75%: The majority of seniors have at least one chronic condition; 28% of Americans over 85 years old have 5 or more.

$160 Billion: Nationwide, the four most common chronic illnesses alone contribute to over $160 billion in annual healthcare expenditures.

Despite widespread availability of valuable health and care management programs, most are not necessarily focused on preventing the most imminent risks among the most complex patients.
